Ducklings Nursery offers Spanish lessons.
Patitos (which is Spanish for Ducklings) is run on Tuesday mornings by a native Spanish teacher who has vast experience of teaching Spanish to pre-school children.
Over the lessons, children learn a number of basic Spanish principles including:
- Greeting
- Numbers
- Colours
- Family
- Parts of the body
- Week days, months and weather
- Rhymes
The learning of a second language becomes second nature as this is the age that a child absorbs everything around them. Studies have shown that learning a language at an early age is far more effective than in later life.
Introducing the classes, Nursery Leader Janet Dawson commented “Learning a second language is an ideal opportunity to further a child’s development at an early age. It will provide fantastic grounding for when they come to learn languages in Primary and Senior Schools and it is fun for the children as they learn something they can then use on holidays.”
Isabelle is really enjoying her Spanish lessons and comes home every Tuesday with new words and even songs that she has learned in Spanish. She has mastered counting to ten, colours, greetings and members of the family. So she is all set for our holiday to Spain this year! It is a fantastic age to start learning languages, they pick it up so quickly, and from what Isabelle tells me, they have a great time too!
